Recently while scanning some old parlors on eBay I came across a term I was unfamiliar with: ISOs or Instrument shaped objects.  ISOs are any cheap band instrument, but also include guitars.

Apparently the big-box stores are now able to import ISOs, with tariffs lower than those actually labeled, imported and sold as instruments.

Anyone heard anything about this?  Guess this is how/why there are so many $19.99 guitars now available.

I am accustom to ISO being ISO200 International Organization for Standardization Part of the ISO900 agenda. I guess ISO sounded better than IOS

But to your question Andrew no I have not heard about it.

I've always referred to them a MISP's - Musical Instrument Shaped Product.

I think either one is a fairly accurate term.
