i'm currently removing a lot of my wood and hand tools to my rented apartment so that i could work on guitars on (hopefully) a daily basis and not just now and then when i come back home from university.
in the process i stumbled across a jar containing hide glue (in its granular form).
its been purchased from LMI just over a year ago.

does granular hide glue has a limited shelf life?
and if so, how long is too long?

Udi...I've stored the granules in a tight LMI container for 3 years with no ill effects. Just keep it sealed and dry and it should have an unlimited shelf life IMO.

BTW...I've also stored mixed HHG in air-tight containers in a freezer for up to 9 months with no ill effects. Of course I did comparative testing against a fresh batch.
