I bought this and have used it in an attempt to remove sharp corners on fret bevels. What is it's true purpose? How do you use it?

Bruce buddy sorry no help here but I have the exact file and would be interested in hearing what others who use it have to say.

I use a small standard file that I removed the teeth off both of the small sides.
I hit it with a quick pass or two and I'm done.
It cost me nothing because I used a file that was just taking up space in my garage.
Sand paper does the rest.

I use a piece of sandpaper, 400 grit wet/dry will still knock off burrs with a couple passes and if you back it up with a finger it conforms just well enough.

Yep crowning file

Bruce, I also bought this file. I thought it was me!! It seems like it made the frets WORSE! So I stopped using it and put it in the useless tools area. (A big buckett). Then, reading your inquirey, my hopes returned that maybe I was using it wrong. I scrolled down in hopes that it was the case. I guess it will stay in the buckett.

That's a half-crowning file for half frets.

I guess that and the curved sole violin thumb plane have been my least used tool investment. They look nice though.

I did revisit a vendors comments and noticed there are two sizes. Mine may be one for bass frets? Live and learn.

This file will not make them pretty but will get them back to ful radius. You have to dress after using this. Multi stage process; level, crwon and dress

Its for when you only want to work half days ....
