What is the status of the new, faster, mo betta OLF?
Lots of beta testing and activity back in Sept-Oct but haven't seen any updates lately.
Lance? Brock??

Hank-
My understanding was that the new 'rollout' was delayed a bit so that the last of the Swap Meet transactions could be completed, without any risk of pm messages going astray.

Cheers
John

It is pretty close. There are a few wrap up items, but for the most part we are ready to go. We just need to copy over the databases one last time and flip the switch.

Yeah

Some things to help instill a sense of community, greater so then it already is.

For example(s):

Page with definition of "OLF" terms - you know TAS, zoot, zootman, Grump, d***d, SWMBO, YMMV, ES, BRW, IMHO, The Bear, etc.

A contest or two:  OLF theme song for those talented, and funny, enough to write one for us.  Best rendition of Silent nite (ROD)

Or distinguished service awards, voted upon by members in some cases and from the data in other cases.  For example - the very first member (who is still here) etc.  Most innovative SS builder and Classical builder.  Distinguished sponsor service award.  And many more ideas.

Perhaps for non sponsor members a prize of a one year subscription could be awarded.

Any way something for any one and every one that shows that all are valued (except Billy and I) (JUST KIDDING).

And of course if U of M beats OSU Saturday the U of M logo has to be on the site for one year.........

[QUOTE=fmorelli] Hmmm, sounds like a birthday event of sorts is needed at the grand opening ... anyone have bright ideas?

Yeah, roll it out on Nov. 30...my birthday.
I'll be officially in the "Social Security" generation!
I was a baby boomer 3 weeks after the war ended
Yes, THAT war.....

Interesting question Todd.

I have some experience with the new software that the OLF 2.0 is built upon and although AI (artificial intelligence) has come a long way no one has yet to incorporate filters for anything beyond swearing or any specifically designated words or terms.

It would be interesting however to write a filter that detects narcissistic personality disorder also known as pathological egotism.  But that certainly would be more difficult to do than to say detect a Gerber Mk II at a TSA check point.

I do concur completely with your listing above both the desired and not so desired categories.  With that said nothing stops each and everyone of us, unless some don't take their meds........, or some who should take meds don't know it yet, from subscribing to your listings as a general guide.

Although it's been suggested here many times prior the simplest and perhaps most effective thing that we might do as individuals is when confronted by something that upsets us - walk away.  Make a point out of not posting anything related to the offending remarks ever and if at all possible perhaps avoiding the thread going forward.

About a week ago I pledged to walk away from any fights that I get into on the OLF - I will no longer respond unless it is a disagreement in the challenging of ideas, methods, concepts, technical info, etc.  But as for the personal stuff - Carlie don't surf.

I would invite others to consider this practice going forward as well.
