Hi guys. I'm new here, so let me know if I'm posting in the wrong
spot.  I've never build an instrument before, but I had an idea for a
guitar a few months ago, and liked the idea so much that I just had to
try and build it. I've been buying tools as I need them, and learning
as I go. When I started, I didn't even know what a luthier was, but I'm
finding the experience very rewarding and enjoyable so far... making a
lot of sawdust anyway.

My project is an arch top steel string... kind of a cello or violin
style instrument re-proportioned to the size and shape of a dreadnought
guitar. I have some pictures on a blog I've been keeping if anyone
cares to take a look,..

Let me know what you think if you have a minute.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave - First, let me welcome you to the OLF!

Second, what an interesting instrument!  I really like the pin router idea to carve the top and back.

As to the other aspects, I'll let the other, more experienced, folks respond.

Thanks guys!  I know I'm probably making every mistake in the book on this one, but I really just want to get used to working with wood and getting to know my tools.

Somebody already pointed out that the carved in braces were weaker than glued in ones, so I'll probably be changing that.
