If we assume Hond Mahog with Sitka top, what effect does x braced L-00 have on orig sound of Gibson braced L-00, and does the bracing wood make a differene. What bracemeasurements are you using for L00-do measurements vary with specie of bracing used?

Bob buddy when I was building mine I did a lot of research and here are some of the things that I found.  Unfortunately I didn't record where this material came from so I can't post proper attribution - my apologies.

1929 Gibson L-1/L-00 Transitional: Here we have a very rare transitional L-1/L-00 from 1929 with the Robert Johnson specs. Only about 200 of these were made with these specs. The gorgeous dark brown sunburst is absolutely breathtaking. This beauty has been recently renovated by master luthier Bill Tippin so it should not need any work for a few more decades. The tone is simply magical, it's as light as a feather and the notes fly out on wings. This instrument features:

    * Builder: Gibson
    * Model: L-1/L-00. Unique transitional model with Robert Johnson appointments.
    * Hear this guitar played by Al Petteway
      [recorded naturally, close pair, no EQ]
    * View a movie of this guitar. Requires Windows Media Player 10
    * Year: 1929
    * Serial #: 9569
    * Back/Sides Wood: Mahogany
    * Top Wood: Spruce
    * Neck Wood: Mahogany, 1 piece
    * Headplate: ebony
    * Headstock Inlay: Builder Logo
    * Fingerboard: Rosewood
    * Fret Markers: dots
    * Frets to body: 12
    * Cutaway: none
    * Bridge: Brazilian Rosewood
    * Pickguard: Tortoise
    * Bindings: Ebony
    * Top Trim: none
    * Rosette: Ivoroid
    * Tuners:
    * Case: hardshell case, not original
    * Pickup: No
    * Condition: Very Good +, Bill Tippin did a neck reset, new brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge and refret all to the correct specs. This one is ready to be played for years and years.
    * Body Length: 19 1/4 in.
    * Upper Bout: 10 1/4 in.
    * Lower Bout: 14 3/4 in.
    * Body Depth @Neck Heel: 3 3/8 in.
    * Body Depth @Tail Block: 4 1/4 in.
    * Scale Length: 24.75 in.
    * Nut Width: 1 3/4 in.
    * Strings Spacing: 2 3/8 in.
    * Comments: "This is the classic Gibson acoustic from the '20's that everyone loves. It's got that "sound" and it plays like a dream. Even though there is a considerable amount of visible wear, the guitar is in fantastic playing condition and is set up perfectly. This is probably due to the fact that it belongs to professional Old-time musician Adam Tanner. I would love to have this guitar, personally, but Adam won't give it to me. So, it's yours for the asking. Don't miss out on this rare opportunity." - Al Petteway
      "This is the old Gibson we all dream about, perfect playability and huge voice. It's one of those featherweights that jumps off your lap when you play. As one old time picker here in the mountains would say, "this is the kind of guitar you put on stage and it plays 3 songs buy itself!". A little beast for sure." - Paul Heumiller

Hesh I think a lot of your info came from Dreamguitars. They have a 1932 L00 there now.

Well Howard my friend I DO qualify as a Loo Pro since my first 10 guitars were built in the loo.  So there!

It was in that loo that I learned to do "kerfing" and planned my next "builds"..........

Thank you Warren - she's a beauty and I would love to have an original and a black one too!!!

I have a 14 Fret L-00 from '32 - '34. The braces clock in at 5mm wide x 14mm tall. The top is .125 thick around the sound hole. It may be an adirondack top, but it's hard to tell through all that black paint.

I had almost forgot about Hesh being the loo master builder. It is amazing how many quality ideas come out of the loo too
