What technique do you use when you french polish the top and finish B/S with a little sturdier finish. How do you handle the intersection of the 2 diff. types of finish?

Bob,
If no one has does this before (I cannot believe that), or no one posts what has worked for them, I would try taping off the top. My guess is that sturdier means nitro, so spray on the nitro, then french polish the top. Use alcohol to clean up any drips you get on the side....

Good idea? Bad one? Dunno, haven't tried it but will after I complete building my neck and getting it properly fitted to the body.

Somebody, anybody, please let us know of a proven method to accomplish this task. If it is just a really bad idea, a note containing why it is a bad idea would also be helpful.
thanks from 'N.ewbies U.nited in T.ime S.aving'.

Bob, you'll get a lot more information if yo actually put something in the thread title that relates to what you're asking. Please. I generally skip threads that don't have clear titles; I only came to this one to ask that you use better thread titles <g>

"How to?"
says nothing. How to what? Make babies? Glue tenons? Invest? advertise? oh, French polish? well...

Bob I asked Tony Ferguson this very question yesterday and he has some ideas and would be delighted to share them with you if you want to call him.

I can't remember if I PMed you his number or not but if not let me know and I will PM it to you after the game (Cheeseheads vs Michigan).

Bob,
I recently finished my latest with FP for the top and nitro lacquer for Back and sides.
I sprayed the B&S first (no tape just face down) to get started and after a few days, lightly sanded the top edge at the binding to level off any spill over from the lacquer and to be sure I was at wood on the top before starting the FP.
So I guess my transition was at the binding but I wasn’t that strict about it.
I didn’t get very much guidance either so I’m interested to see how others have done this.

Mario, I made enough babies in my day...

Do the back and sides first, rub them out, mask off, and FP the top. No problem.

I'm planning to do this with polyestered back and sides and an FP'd top on a collaboration I'm doing with Monica Esparza. This is what Smallman does. I don't see it as an issue.

There is not much curiosity. I moused over and saw 'French Polish' sturdier finish?  in the first post!

This must be a feature for those of us still on 56K dialup. Its a nice feature, I hope it stays with the new website!

I think there was a thread on the Subject, "Subject" recently.  For purposes of generating interest as well as developing really searchable archives based on subjects, it would be best if we include the actual subject in the "Title' of the thread.  This one could have been "How do I FP top only."

Looks like the topic raised more interest in labeling the thread properly....What was the question again?

That's an interesting way to make a baby.
