What thickness of Nomex do you use between tops? Which top (showing or inside) is the primary sound producer? Thanks, |

Bob, For info on double tops you can visit www.dunwellguitar.com and go to "Luthier's Pages" then "Let's Build A Guitar". He gives a lot of good info and a pictorial view of their construction and the use of Nomex. Also, Randy Reynolds did a very good artical in GAL on double tops and their construction with Nomex. Hope this helps a bit. Ray

Hey Bob, I don't use Nomex on my double tops but there is not one particular layer "producing" the sound. A double top acts at a whole new top and thats why it sounds different. Same thing with regular soundboards. Different species and boards don't "produce" sound but vibrate and react differently to string input... |

Apologies for a possible thread hijack, but I just had to comment, I wish I had known about Alan Dunwell when I was in Nederland, Colorado a couple of years ago. The big attraction was "Grandpa in the Tuff Shed". Go check it out, you won't believe it. Frozen Dead Guy Days |
