Hi gang, I know there's a reso section, but it's pretty quiet in there.......

I'm in conversation with a guy who may want me to build him a 12 string resonator along the lines of this beast on ebay.......



I'm thinking either Mahogany or Maple, top, back & sides with a neck to match.

Two MAIN gaps in my understanding.......

the 6 a side slot head tuners..... I vaguely remember someone asking about these a while ago and getting not a lot of good news..... Anyone know are these available for a sensible price or do I try to talk the guy round to regular tuners?

the other diff is the geometry of the cones & tone rings. (single cones)

As I understand it, the biscuit bridged resos have a low ring attached to the back of the guitar that the edge of the cone sits on. holes on the ring at the back allow airflow.

A spider bridged reso has a deep sound well with holes cut around it, and the cone attaches to this at the same level as the top of the guitar, with the spider spaning the cone.

is this right?

I've tried to find a cutaway or sectional drawing on the interweb, but no luck so far.

Any help would be appreciated!!

All of the single coil national style I have seen, had a well that hung from the top with a ledge that the cone sat on and that's the way I made mine. Some of the Nationals had a sort of sound post that ran from the back to the bottom of this ledge to help support it but those were metal bodied reso's. There should be some good info out there somewhere though. Good luck
