Has anyone figured out why there are intermittent problems using Firefox to log in? Internet Explorer always works, but usually will not remember me (will not read the cookie.) Firefox sometimes reads the cookie properly, and allows me to login. Other times when I try to use Firefox, I get an "unsuccessful login."

Depending on the computer I'm sitting at, I usually now surf with Firefox, except for a very few sites (like the OLF) that sometimes force me to open an IE browser.

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks,

Dennis

Dennis, I never have a problem with Firefox. Then only time I have to log on is when I switch computers (home or work). Try going to Tools/Options/Privacy/Cookies and make sure Allow Cookies is checked. Mine is also set to keep the cookie until it expires. Don't know if this will help but it is worth a try.

Dennis-
Like Don, I use Firefox here at the OLF (and pretty well everywhere) and have few problems- generally I'm 'logged in' all the time, it seems.
Last week I had a few problems, and had to re-login a few times, but things seem back to normal now.
Firefox has its drawbacks- I can't get it to open up a 'duplicate' of the current window, for example, but I do prefer it to IE...any chance to poke Microsoft in the eye is welcome here.

Cheers
John

Thanks, Don and John.

Yeah, I need to run Firefox2 and IE6 and IE7 to test web pages - but I now greatly prefer Firefox.

Sometimes clearing the cache and/or deleting all cookies and starting over seems to help, but not every single time. It's odd that the behavior is intermittent. The last time I tried (a couple of hours ago, when I created this thread), I could not log in with Firefox, but this time no problem at all. (And, I did nothing but leave and come back.)

Don, I'm set up the same way as you. (In fact, I don't think it is even possible any more to surf with cookies off, or it would certainly cripple the surfing.)

Curiouser and curiouser...

Dennis

I'm working on OS X and using Firefox. I've never had a problem logging in to the forum. Remembers me every time. Sometimes there are issues with trying to upload images, but that seems to be intermittent.

Once again, last night Firefox=good, and this morning Firefox=bad. I had to login using IE again (on this, the same computer) to post this.

I think it has something to do with how the Luthiersforum.com site handles cookies. Come to think of it, I think that since I upgraded from Firefox 1.0 to Firefox 2.x, I have not found any sites other than the OLF that have an issue.

Even though IE works (allows me to login), it still does not read the cookie correctly (does not "remember" me)and forces me to to login from scratch.

Even though I hate to delete all cookies and clear all cache, I'll try that again. And, (though it makes no logical sense), I'll try to re-set Firefox not to remember my login and password, to see if that has any effect.

Thanks,

Dennis

It is strange.  I couldn't log on using the little quick log on button, when I was using IE7, but could log on using the normal logon button.  I have not had that problem with Firefox at all.  I have, on a couple of occasions, had a log-on fail, but it always works on the second attempt. OLF was the reason I switched to Firefox.  I have not looked back.

It sounds to me like you have a cookie issue.  I use a little program called Cookie Wall to control my cookies.  That allows me to set my browsers fully opened to them.  Cookie Wall, asks about every cookie, but learns which ones to accept all the time.  After using it for a while, you are rarely bugged by it except at boot up.  It is particularly useful if you are using IE.
