Hi all,

I'm making a neck through body bass, and suddenly wonder if I didn't make that fingerboard to thin.  The bridge's narrowest string spacing is 2 1/8" 1-4 th string.  When string width is taken into account, there will be 1/8" between either edge of the fingerboard and the outer edge of the string.  I figure this is fine near the nut, but up by the 12 th fret, do you think she'll slip off?

My Fingerboard is 2.340" at the 21st fret.

If it's too bad I'm still going to finish the guitar, and make acoustic style bridge, with an ebony blank and a bone saddle. Then I can make my sting spacing a little closer.

Thanks for any advice, or affirmation.

Stefan

Why not bind the edges of the fingerboard to get more width?

Stefan-
As Ray suggests...
If you don't like the look of contrasting binding, just make 'stealth' bindings out of the offcuts from the FB.

Cheers

I've already carved the neck pretty much, so binding isn't an option at this point.

Thanks though,

Stef
