I currently new to this forum so Hey! I'm Daniel. I'm a Junior in High School and planning on studying to become a Luthier, but i can't find any school. I'm hoping that maybe you guys can help me. I'll make a list of possible attributes the school might have.

Attributes

Specialize in Classical/Nylon/Flamenco Guitars.

Near or around California or Mexico.

Hands on training.

Everything else that you guys would recommend.

I was also wondering about the Requirement needed to attend the average school

I'm not that familiar with schools in the US, but I'm sure somebody will join in here with the info you need.
Are you looking for a school with a multi-year program, diploma, etc, or just a course (could be during the summer?) of a month or so?

For most schools I've heard of, the main requirement is money, so you'd better start saving up.

there's the Roberto Venn School of lutherie in Phoenix.

Red Rocks Community College in Colorado offers classical, flamenco, steel string, electric guitar, mandolin and violin courses. These are all semester courses for college credit.

Googel Lutherie School + California you will get 24,300 hits That would be a good starting point. If you can afford it yo might want to consider a week or two week class to see if you really are that interested. Neither a full time curriculum or a short class will be inexpensive but you will walk away with a quality guitar that you built.

This is a great craft but be aware that the pay scale is far less than the industrial trades and or other professional trades. While I most certainly do not want to discourage you in any way. You are young and you should look at how this craft will pay as one of your considerations.

Ya I was looking for a multi-year program. The main eason i want to become a Luthier is because this way i can sell Handmade Gutars here in California. Also so i dont have to pay for my guitars, I do play the instrument.

does Roberto Venn School specialize in a peticular type of Guitar, because another type of guitar popped in to my head a Requinto.

I'll  keep the Colorado College in mind.

MichealP I know nothing of the pay they receive so can you give me and Average of what they might make? Please and Thank You. What do you mean by Hits? Also I'm also planning on Studing in something else like Graphic Design or Animation. I am taking a Computer Animation this year, But my current priorty is being able to make a guitar. Thanks for your concern though.

Only thing is that I live in California not Colorado so i'll have to look at another College till later.
