I'm interested int he bearclaw sitka tops and quilted cherry... what kind of a trade do you have in mind? I'm not sure about the box elder either. I know it is a dense wood and is usually turned for plates and bowls and holds a finish well. One of my friends who also owns a sawmill has it and I have talked him into quarter sawing a large log for me. This stuff isnt cheap and as far as I know nobody else has any of it quaqrter sawn like this. It is a really pretty wood and the color variances between the creamy white and the vivid reds is supposed to be color fast and not fade to a brown. He usually sells it by the inch, selling it a "cookies" off of the end of the log for $20/inch. At this point I have only committed to buying one 9" wide board and one 5" wide board and it is in transit to me as I write this. There is more available from this log, but he has told me under no circumstances will he ever quarter saw any of this stuff again. |
