My 2nd guitar was Padauk, but it certainly didn't look that pretty. Nice stuff there, and thanks for posting!

Jon, how difficult was it to bend the sides? I've never tried bending padauk
sides, but I've tried to bend padauk binding and it was extremely difficult.

Maybe I was just lucky, but I had no problems at all with bending.  I wrapped the sides in kraft paper after standing them in the shower for :30 or so.  Only spritzed a few times during the bend, and didn't try to rush the process (I use bulbs, not a blanket).  It seems to be somewhat of a long grained wood, with open pores that need a substantial amount of filling.  Once you get a finish on it though, it sure gets a deep burgundy-red-brown tone to it compared to its brick orange raw state.  Overall, I liked working with it...pretty inexpensive tonewood, and the guitar sounds great to boot!

Just a few weeks ago, I tried to bend a set of Padauk. I had resawn these myself and thickenesed them on my Luthier's friend. Both sides split while bending. I measured the broke pieces carefully and found I had gone a bit to thin, under .085" in the middle. So a did a little resaw of two more sides, thinned them to .100"+. Before wetting, I did the tiniest flex of one side and all 32" split right down the middle. Maybe I'm a doofus on bending but I no longer like padauk. I would like to hear other people's experiences.

That is one pretty guitar! Almost looks 3D with the finish on it.

I've had no luck at bending Paduk. No matter what thickness and whether I'm using my lightbulb bender or a hot pipe It still breaks. I just set all of mine aside until I can upgrade to a blanket system.
