Hey gang,

Here's a "new" inlay almost ready to leave the bench.

What do you think about the tree and antlers crossing the purfling?
With finish, I feel it gives the inlay a slight 3D feel.
(Maybe it's just too much shell dust!)

Grit Laskin usually has his inlay running right off the edge of the piece altogether, so I think you're just tiptoeing on the line rather than crossing it :)

Stunning stuff, as always, and a great eye for the composition.

very nice engraving. I love the passing through effect. Does that mean the purfling on a PRS's is at least .05 or so? Enough to rout cleanly through? It seems so. Inquiring minds want to know... Did you just start by sanding off the decal/finish? Obviously it's not a "PRS" signature headstock anymore.

What made the tree fall down?
It's beautiful!

I better get something up here quick or they'll think I went out of business..

Craig, This is on a Private Stock PRS; It never had a decal or logo.
The purfling is approx. .050. I did lose a few pieces near the antlers, so I inlaid some small sections cut to match to keep the effect.

I may add some "ground effects", although I'm past budget.(My clients love the freebies!)
Amazing how these projects can grab you and "force" you to add and improve. (STill working on yours,Paul & Grumpy!)

I find that "budget" and "inlay" are words often used together, but rarely enforced when it's something that needs to be a certain way or have a certain look. Normally it's me doing the bending too.. Ah the life of an inlay artist.   it's actually more stressful than people might think!
