Yesterday (the rest of this weekend) is the largest Canadian wood and workshop show - the Woodstock Ontario Wood show. I always go the first day to get a crack at the best wood and selection. There are usually three or four local wood guys there, all with locally harvested and cut lumber, plus a few dozen tool vendors, everything from a local CNC manufacturer to small mom and pop carving tool suppliers. I pick up supplies here as well, from sandpaper (workshop supply) to bandsaw blades (R&D) to stabilized figured maple for rosettes
I am always on the lookout for good zoot, and yesterday didnt disapoint - one vendor had a truckload of curly maple, some curly cherry and plain walnut. Another pen blank guy had boxes full of stabilized maple in all the colours of the rainbow !!! Mine for the pickin ....Mmmmm ..Mmmmmm .... GOOD. But then again, so was the poutine from the chip truck

Only 7 inch wide on the back board, but can do 3 piece backs if necessary - thats 4 sets worth.
Curly maple, nice, 2 outer pieces are 5/4 and 12 inches wide, will mostly be used for custom and student built electric tops and some binding as well. The centre piece is 4/4 and 10 wide.
Stabilized curly in purple green and blue - wicked curl, for rossetes and inlays.
