Yesterday (the rest of this weekend) is the largest Canadian wood and workshop show - the Woodstock Ontario Wood show. I always go the first day to get a crack at the best wood and selection. There are usually three or four local wood guys there, all with locally harvested and cut lumber, plus a few dozen tool vendors, everything from a local CNC manufacturer to small mom and pop carving tool suppliers. I pick up supplies here as well, from sandpaper (workshop supply) to bandsaw blades (R&D) to stabilized figured maple for rosettes

I am always on the lookout for good zoot, and yesterday didnt disapoint - one vendor had a truckload of curly maple, some curly cherry and plain walnut. Another pen blank guy had boxes full of stabilized maple in all the colours of the rainbow !!! Mine for the pickin ....Mmmmm ..Mmmmmm .... GOOD. But then again, so was the poutine from the chip truck

So, without further delay .. the ZOOT !!!

Curly cherry, that ripple is an inch wide Only 7 inch wide on the back board, but can do 3 piece backs if necessary - thats 4 sets worth.
Curly maple, nice, 2 outer pieces are 5/4 and 12 inches wide, will mostly be used for custom and student built electric tops and some binding as well. The centre piece is 4/4 and 10 wide.
Stabilized curly in purple green and blue - wicked curl, for rossetes and inlays.

Not sure Tim .. I have only built one in cherry, a parlour for Anthony Z's daughter actually. My guess/impression is that its not as bright as a maple would be, so a bit warmer, maybe closer to a koa or walnut.

BTW, all the maple shown here is of a soft variety - not sure what, and I dont really care !!! Its all about the figure.

Sorry Bob.. never really thought of it ... besides, you can't have it all !!! Plus, with the Cdn dollar now worth more than the US buck, is it still worth it

Come on up next year, its always the weekend before Cdn thanksgiving ... never know what you will find.

Tony..........Woodstock's always a great show - only one I go to & wouldn't miss it! I walked in 10 min. after opening bell & was amazed at so much beautifull wood already marked "sold". They'll be camping out next! That looks like the stuff from The Wood Shed- got some myself!

That's good for you. More bang for the buck when you buy from me.

I didnt get in right at the bell either (had to wait at home for a contractor to show up before i could get away) - was more like 10;45 or so when I got there, plus we hit Edgar the veneer guy first, he always had cool stuff - but this year he is slowing down, only bought one little piece of a spalted burl from him.
