I have to attach an ivoriod heel cap onto a 70s era Martin D12-35. If I were building a guitar I'd use C.A. glue or Weld-on. I could then scrape or sand off any squeeze out prior to finishing. What should I use to reattach this heel cap without damaging the original finish?

I could use too little glue so that there is no squeeze out but I don't want the repair to come back. If it was a wood cap I'd use hot hide glue because that can be easily removed from the finish without damaging it. I've heard wiping acetone on ivoriod and then gluing with Titebond but I've never tried it. Titebond squeeze out is pretty easy to remove from a finished surface.

Any suggestions?

Titebond or LMI glue for the reason mentioned Mike.
Good luck.

If hide will stick, then I'd use that. It sticks to a lot of stuff you wouldn't expect it to...
