It's a hereditary condition!!
Now and again I visit my local hardwood store (mostly sells turning blanks but the odd treat comes up occassionally) and there is nothing nicer to walk about in the store room where they stock a wide variety of wonderful hardwoods.....
*sigh*
On occasion, my kids come with me, and two of them wanted a small chuck of something to take back with them. Puzzled, I let them raid the scraps bin and the youngest had a chunk of holly, the eldest, some purpleheart. One weekend I'll give them masks, sanding paper and sand those blocks to a fine surface, and I might even teach them a little french polish technique...
Upon leaving the eldest said, "I can't WAIT until I can come here again to get some rosewood and cocobolo!!!"
What can I do? Is this early onset WAS?????
Seriously though, she has expressed a KEEN interest in working with wood, and I am VERY aware of safely issues- but am wondering how I can get her involved in a project that won't leave her with one digit less....
