this one should be simple and easy for ya'll.

Fret template.

I bought a clear plexi type template from LMI, 25.7 and 27.5 scales (just gotta be different). The template looks like this: http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdproducts.asp?CategoryName=F retting&NameProdHeader=Power+Slotting+System

I have made a pretty simple, basic table saw sled. It all works nicely. But i was wondering how to line it up with the end of the fret board. Do you use your scale templates with the first notch lined up at the end of the fret board, so the first cut (where the first fret will go) is made at the second notch?

John,

I'm sorry, this does not qualify as a stupid question.

I would think you'd want that first ("zero") fret cut as well. You could later cut it through the rest of the way with a hand fretsaw, but at least you'll know where that mark is.

Same thing with the upper end of the fingerboard. Unless you had some other specific spot where you want to cut it off, I'd use the template to cut the 21st fret for a 20 fret fingerboard, and then later cut through that 21st fret line the rest of the way by hand.

Dennis

I cut mine with a fret saw by hand and do as Dennis said. Always cutting to the 21st fret just in case I feel like doing something a little different down at the sound hole.

Thanks,

I was afraid my wording of the question was overly ambiguous, as was my question a couple weeks ago about radii.

Glad to see I got a quick easy clear answer, and caused no arguments.Big smile
