Hello!

Well, after lurking here for a long time, and soaking in an enormous amount information from posts and tutorials, I wanted to sign in and say thank you to all of you who post tutorials, idea's, and general thoughts about guitar making!

I have pretty much completed a Martin style 000 that I purchased from John Hall, who I must comment is an outstanding gentleman and luthier, and am in the process of starting a L-00 mah/adi as a travel guitar. Also, I have been very fortunate to live very close to Canadian luthier Mike Levesque who has helped me immensely in my building projects.

I also had a quick question about access to ivoroid in Canada.  Currently, I am looking for a piece of ivoroid for a heel cap and end graft.  I want to match bindings and have the end graft wide enough to accomodate a pick up hole.  The standard Martin end graft is fairly thin and I was hoping to get a wider piece.  One of the OLF sponsers sells it, however, cannot send it to Canada as it is restricted! (celluloid) If anyone has any idea's I would really appreciate the help.

Brock, the shipping charges are really high since it is a flammable material and must be specially carried...  unless you buy a lot, this multiplies the cost of the parts...

Ray, if you can't come up with any other options, you can always pull the ivoroid binding off and use wood binding that you can match to the heel cap and end graft. There's some pretty nice curly maple up there in Canada . . .

Are you anywhere near the US border?   Many Canadians have mail drops in border towns...then you could just hand carry the stuff in.   

Yeah, that NAFTA thing was great for us, wasn't it? Sure made it easy to get stuff in and out of Canada, eh?

Don't get me started!!!  Delivery into Canada is akin to highway robbery!!  Customs, duty, brokerage fee's and the ever popular "handling charge" on top of your delivery charges.

I'll just have to go with the the narrower ivoroid end graft that Martin uses on their guitars.  It will still look good alright with some purfling added to each side.
