The above photos show my indian rosewood classical.  The original repair was gluing bits of the top back together after the thing got stepped on by some careless fool.  I've finished that and have since stripped the finish off the top with circa 1850 paint stripper.  The sides were masked off, but, not well enough, heh heh.  So a bit of the stripper got under and messed up the finish on the sides a bit. 

The finish on the sides wasn't stripped to the wood, just distorted somewhat.

The question:  Can I spray some more nitro cellulous over the damaged area when I'm respraying the top, and then wet sand it all flat, or should I strip the whole guitar and completely refinish?

Another question:  Sanding the top around the bridge is difficult, anyone think I should take the bridge off, sand it and the guitar seperately and then  rejoin? 

This job is me digging myself a deeper hole each step of the way!

Boy, I thought this was about some stripper from the Cheetah Club or something...

You don't say who made the guitar or what the finish is, but it looks to me like more finish repair is on the way. Sure you can sand and overspray with nitro if need be.

Classical guitars are often finished with the bridge in place, and yes, it's a pain in the a.. to deal with it. But are you adept at removing guitar bridges? You could open up Pandora's Box with this.   And I don't mean Pandora the stripper at the Cheetah Club.

This is one of those cases where being extremely careful with paint stripper pays off.   Or just sand the old finish off and don't risk it.

Suddenly I know a lot more about you than I did just a few minutes ago.      Cheetah Club. Seems I vaguely recollect something like that in my...nah, couldn't be.

Negative on the 1989 trip, to the best of my knowledge. BUT Atlanta is only 3 hours from here, and it is my understanding, from reputable persons, that a man can get into serious mischief down there - resulting in amenesia. So much so that he might stupidly stagger into the place repetitively without even realizing it. It's tragic...or so I'm told.

The guitar is Asturias, model ast-60.  Made in Japan it says.

Curiously, the stripper had little effect on the top, I ended up sanding it off. Ironic, all it was good for was messing up the sides!

I will try to scuff sand the sides and spray nitro over it.

Probably polyester, but I can't account for why it would affect the sides and not the top. Polyurethane?   Doesn't make sense.   Might just sand and buff back fine if you don't burn through.   

Might be a good French polish project for the top.
