From a luthier's perspective, which piece of Brazilian do you like (ease of cut, bending, potential tap tone, etc.)

From a beginners perspective, I like #2.  It goes in at the right place.
Hi Ken:

They both have minor issues that a little care will avoid any major issues. With that said, since they are both great sets, I personally like #1.

Are you building a guitar or having one built?
Hank Mauel is building it for me.  I've already purchased #1, but I like #2 as well.

***I've only worked with walnut, cocobolo, and mahogany*** but if I were
to pick, I'd go with the second set. Not being able to feel or hear them
though, it's really nothing but a visual guess.

I strongly prefer a symmetrical set of back and sides for my guitars. Any figure or grain that is happening on one side of a guitar should also happen on the other. I realize that this is just a personal preference and not necessarily somehting that in any way affects tone or quality though.

Because of these preferences, I would choose set #1 as well because it is more symmetrical. I think you made a good choice!

The 2nd set for sure! I don't care for the dark patch down the center of no.1 But ,they both will make good guitars with Hank building! Welcome to the forum,Ken

1 is kind of ugly to me, whereas 2 is actually nice looking. I'd use 2. Even though it's BRW, I wouldn't use #1. I just don't like it.
I mean, well, no offense...just my opinion.

No offense taken.  I asked for your opinions...honest and brutal.  I appreciate it.

I've actually just purchased set number 2 as well and so Hank will have two different sets to choose from.  The more I look at 2, the more I like....but #1 sure is exotic.  I wanted Zircote, but decided against that due to some cracking issues.  I know Braz. has same issues, but not quite as bad.
