Hi - I have my new Bogdanovich - style workboards finished today, but sized for the 1973 Romanillos/Bream/Aram plans.

I'm going to be working on three guitars in fast (well, for me) succession using this method, and two of them will be EIR and use the cocobola binding scheme that I've come to think of as mine now.

For the third, I'm going to use a set of Palo Escrito that I've had sitting around for a few years, which will be matched to one of Shane's Lutz tops. I've had every binding and backstrip in my possession out to look at with the Palo Escrito, though, and I don't like anything.

What do you think looks good with this wood? Koa? I'm thinking something with a medium shade but definitely not tending towards blonde (maple didn't do it.) Myrtle?

I have used curly oak for binding before with good results. It is in the meduim range as far as color and is a good durable wood. I also have some heart wood out of Ash that I have cut into binding strips. I havent used it yet, but sooner or later that will find it's way onto a guitar as well.

There is no rule that says that all woods on a guitar have to be exotic wood

Thanks. I did think about self-binding since I sent the original message. That would certainly work for the bindings, but I may have some trouble getting a backstrip that doesn't look like its part of either half of the back (and not the other). Or I could forgo the backstrip altogether.
