I Got this one finished up last week but just got some pics of it. This is one of my Healdsburg guitars. The background colors came out kind of pinkish in the phots but the wood colors look right 
Details: B/S - Bastonge Walnut Rosette - spalted maple (first one I've done) Binding - Claro Walnut Bridge/finger board - ebony top - Adirondack Spruce

Very very nice Jim. love it all, Bastogne Walnut is great looking wood and the bound inlaid veneer on the back of the headstock is such a very classy touch indeed. Cheers Kim |

WOW! Was that Bastogne from Steve @ Colonial? I ahve a set and also an Adi top from him. I was really curious about the sound of the combination--how does it sound and what type of braing did you use? If you don't mind revealing that. Scott |

jim, that is a great looking guitar. you didnt take enough photos though. i ran out of images before i was done looking.  and i will add on top of everyone else, the back of that headstock is wonderful. i dont think ive seen anything like it. just beautiful.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Scott teh walnut was from a different sponsor, Todd at Allied Lutherie, but the top is indeed from Steve at Colonial. Lots of our sponsors have wood in this guitar. |

Here's a picture of the bracing.

The guitar is amazing, no doubt, but I'm going to second several comments that say the back of the headstock has a definite wow factor...have not seen that before. Very creative on your part. That's going to knock'em dead at the show. Congratulations. |

In response to "how did you do it?" Well I have a pretty cheesy cnc router, it's ok, but I had to rebuild a large chunk of it to get to work, but it does work now. I made a fixture like so.. 
The neck locates in the truss rod slot and the peghead against the base. I cut the headstock outer profile and the pocket for the inlay in this fixture. I'm pretty sure this could be adapted to hand routers however with a little modification to the fixture. This could be accomplished by pinning guide templates to it for the router to follow. The key to getting it come out well was to install the purfling lines first, then the inlay piece. I cut the inlay just a touch big and used a scraper to fit it into the purf lined pocket. Hope this helps with some ideas for someone. |
