Lance also note...that the inner thread is 1/4-20, however there are many variations on exterior both size and threading. see photo...all are 1/4-20 interior.

lance, threaded inserts are available in several sizes, and whilst the 1/4 x 20 is the one usually used in bolt on necks i have heard of folks using 5/16 x 18. 3/8 x 16 are also commonly available but are too large for neck use.

the exterior threads also vary. some are self tapping and are less likely to cause splits in hard wood than the thread cutting variety.

MP, how were you able to identify these? The reason I ask is that I've got some 4-32 bolts/inserts that look exactly like that (intended to bolt down my fb extension). Were you just assuming that they were neck bolts? Did you have more information that I'm seeing? Or did you have to pull out your super power x-ray vision/ bolt identification skill for this one.

They are LMI's neck bolting kit and I see lots of bolting I can tell by the thread pitch to bolt head relationship that they were 3/16 or larger and then took a educated guess
