Well Chirs, although she is not a member here that I know of, Linda Manzer's Pikasso guitar that she built for Pat Metheny comes close.

I have built a harp guitar before and they can be monsters...the biggest challenge in building is the structural support for the tension that the strings will place on the body of the guitar.

At one of the ASIA symposiums I talked to Linda Manzer about Pikasso and her other harp guitars and she said that she overbuilt the bracing to make sure the guitars would stay together and then just made sure that all of the other elements contributed as much as possible to the sound since the bracing was heavier.

I cant see where you could get your arm in there to actually play them. It would take an octapus to play the things

I think the Japanese guitars and Linda's are perfect examples of the tenet that just because you can do something technically, it doesn't follow that you actually should do it.

Well, in Manzer's case it was a customer request. Pat Metheny asked her for something different, and left it to her imagination. Apparently the customer was happy with the result, and you can't ask for better than that!
