I think that I remember Bruce posting the dimensions of his x-braces and he stated that they were 3/4" tall at the intersection and this was based on an Hd-28 plan. I have the plans for the Martin HD-28 and mine seem to show that the x-brace is exactly 5/8" tall at the x-brace intersection. I'm not saying that Bruce is wrong, but I want to make sure of the dimensions before I cut them. I don't want to underbrace the top, but I don't want to overbrace either. |

FYI I am using 3/4 on my D-series. I got the dimension from measuring a D-28 kit I got from Martin several years ago. My plans I got from Martin said 5/8 but the braces sent were 3/4. I looked at it this way the extra section gave me more brace to scallop during tuning. |

Hmmm Jeremiah, I don't remember posting 3/4. I do remember 11/16" tall because that is what my xBrace notching tool is set up for and I use the same brace on all my guitars. But you get close to that and it'll work. Height not width, is the real stiffening agent when it comes to bracing. |

Yeah, if you look in the archives from the old forum you'll find it in the January 2005 archives under the topic "Question for you Bruce concerning your x-brace scallop jig." I had actually printed it out at the time because you gave a lot of useful information like where the intersection is centered at on the x-brace, where valley of the scallops are located, etc. |
