I read w/ envy how a number of you had productive, useful weekends. Me? I smashed my truck into another truck, ruining the front end. (Mine, not his. I ruined his rear bumper.) Since misery loves company, I'll ask if anyone else had a less than perfect weekend? Shop-related, street-related, it's all the same. I am thankful, though, that no one was hurt. Steve |

Oh man, glad your OK Steve, that's the important part. I discovered that I bent a set of Zircote sides inversed so the ends don't match (I bent them both the same direction)     ...
I've decided to just finish the guitar and added some steps my my process when I bend so it can't happen again (first time would be on some GOOD wood). Now I have to decide if I'll take this one to healdsburg or not
It doesn't compare to smashing a truck but it does hurt... -Paul- |

All that matters is that your all safe. Trucks can be rebuilt. People are a tad bit harder. Heck I'll even inlay the dash of the new one for ya! (truck that is!) Just make sure it's ebony O.K? 
Wasn't it JOhn that wanted mud flap girls on silver once??

Michael--Indeed they do. And, eventually, just when you think they always happen to the other guy, they end up happening to you. Paul- Yes, I read about your misadventures in another post. I dunno, that might hurt more. I'm always suspicious that I'll do the same thing, so I started writing all over the sides--before bending--just which way they went. Which side I was looking at, even which side is UP. So far, no problems. But see above comment. Craig--I'll take ya up on that. I'm pretty sure they're not replacing the dash. Can you inlay (oh, what is that stuff) naugahyde? It's a beige plastic-type stuff. I can just see one of your underwater sea-scapes all over the front. I'd be crashing all the time, from taking my eyes off the road and staring at the dash board! John--Holiday? That's where I went wrong. |

My weekend was spent working on my bookkeeping, taxes and getting over a cold  but compared to a car accident it doesn't seem so bad now. Glad to hear no one was hurt as Craig said cars are fixable.

Paul I think most all of us have bent one side wrong before. I was able to straighten, then rebend an Indian Rosewood side on one guitar. I've since forgotten which it was, but it was before I learned to use a bending form, so I could find it. When you kept talking about this thing not matching I knew something was up and evidently, you did too. You saw as everyone else how nice Woolson's looked. Just had to go inspect yours again didn't ya? I had a real brain fart on one recently, sanded the back to 25, then had to resand to 15, then noticed the top didn't quite line up so had to sand it back to 25. What did I do wrong? I put the dovetail in backwards. Funny thing, I do that after the rims are glued on. So, I too have written all over the things, but plan to get even more serious ID'ing everything, so these mistakes don't happen. Just real disconcerting when we are supposed to be professionals, huh? |

Hey Steve, Glad you are not hurt, and yes misery loves company, so I will join you. Just found out our car has a blown head gasket, or cracked/warped head. Estimate is $2500.00 to $4500.00 depending on what they find when they take it appart. So, the savings account is history, and the credit card is smoking. And to think I was pouting because I cut the sound hole in the wrong place on my guitar, and have to replace the top, and broke the fretboard on my kit guitar, and.....come to think of it......when do things start going right?!

I have been working on bending a venetian cutaway OM, I have not quite gotten the hang of doing the bend with fox bender,so broke a side or two trying that, then I decided to bag the bender and just do it by hand on my hot pipe, which I broke a side or two trying to do, then I finally got a good side bent and set up my rim set in my body mold and then realized DOH! I made a lefty! I did it all upside down and backwards. after all this I have decided to make a florentine cutaway instead

Roy- Thanks for the kind wishes. Bruce-- The difference between amateurs and professionals is that the pros get paid to make their mistakes. We all feel your pain--at whatever level we are. Jeff-- Ouch! Leave your sound hole where it is, and convince the public that it is an experimental concept, that it involves advanced acoustical physics, and if they're smart, they'll snatch this baby up before the prices really climb. And maybe it'll pay for the blown head?
Bob-- Hey! Glad, finally, to get you over here. Ghandi was right-- there is also slowing down really quickly. I appreciate all the sympathetic shoulders, guys. Steve |
