I'm of to the shop to make sawdust, that is between honey Do's and City Championship bowling tourney and heaven for bid I get called into work for the fifth weekend in a row. See ya Monday if not sooner |

Hey Michael In Alberta its a long weekend so I'm hoping to be able to do everything I am supposed plus be able to work on my bracing. I might even get my top braced and glued on the sides ( no that would be to wonderful,never happen). Oh well back to reality check, other work first,guitar work second. Rats.  Hope everybody else gets done those things needing doing . Have a great one!!

Oh man it's going to be a good one Michael, I've already carved the heel on my classical and made the tail block ready for glue up first thing in the morning (when my brain is more awake)... I have a LOOOOOONG laundry list of things to get done this weekend.. 
I just wish this dang rain would go away, I can't brace up tops right now, even with the dehumidifier on high it can't keep up

I'm putting the strings, all 19 of them on my newly completed 10-course lute. After I've put all the strings on I'll be adding the frets. Yep, that's right you put the strings on before putting on the frets! the frets are gut that are tied on around the neck. Changing the position of the frets allows changes in intonation and temper. With my shop time at a premium lately, I had a rare productive weekend upon returning home. First, I opened my goodies that were delivered from the Zootman, John Mayes, Lee Valley, Woodcraft and a router table. In the shop I voiced a parlor top & back (thanks, John Mayes for the great tips on your latest DVD) and hide glued a sitka top and cherry back to the sides...the first time doing it without extra hands! Finally, I scraped and scraped the back and sides before putting on a light coat of ZPoxy. I also did some safety planing on a neck. That's all for this trip...and I was in such a groove! |

Well, I've been workin' on some inlay for an electric, did a bit of carving, and I've just finished watching John Mayes' voicing DVD. Lovely stuff, and it's confirmed my suspicion that the top on the guitar I've got in box-shape now (baritone I was afraid I'd underbraced) has the nice, proper ring it should. Now I'm even thinking I overdid it. Well worth the price of admission. Currently I'm staring at Ed Dicks' site, which I really, really shouldn't be doing. |

Well With the Honey-do list and the City bowling championships, I on the board of directors so I had to work the tourney from 12:00 noon to 7:00pm Sat. and Sun. By the way, my 5 man team won the team championship with a combined 3 game score of 3,660 that is an avg of 244 per person per game. We must have ate something bad the night before, because we were bowling out of our minds  Anyway I did not get to make as much saw dust as I was hoping.

I had a very productive weekend this week. I have one Maple lrg body reso. , one Walnut lrg body Reso. , one regal body Reso.,one D body EIR ,one Walnut D body , one walnut 00 body ,...and a regal body Koa reso . Putting the finishing touches on the Koa right now. Sold my personal curly Maple Reso. ,...three weeks ago and don't have anything to play. Im suppose to play out Thurs. nite. Its gonna be close ,....waiting on Gold tail piece to arrive to set up koa reso. Of course I did'nt accomplish this in one week end. So which one should I work on ? I get bored easy ,...so I kinda bounce around . |

JD, John Osthoff and I were talking last weekend about the "Getting board" aspect and bouncing around to different projects. I do the same thing as you, I have in the works, an LS-Coco Om, Carpathian-Acacia 12 fret dreadnought, a LS-Rosewood E2 (SJ),a Cedar-Mahogany L1 (Parlor) and finally another L1 of quilted mahogany, top yet to me determined. What I find is that I can bounce around and do what like rather than facing all these guitars at the same time needing detail work YUK! Some folks like to build in batches, and do all the same thing to all the guitars one after the other. NOT ME....  |

Lance I really have to be honed in and totally into the detail mode ,...for final finish and set up. Anyway,... starting a new build makes our minds race with Ideas,..and I think thats what were really in it for. JD |
