I have a couple of small gaps around my binding as well as a small divot on the side near the neck. I was thinking of using CA and dust to fill them but wasn't sure if it would be invisible with the finish on. Are there any issues with the CA leeching into the wood around the repair and permanently marking the wood?

Regards

Craig.

Does CA stick to shellac?  When you seal around, say, a rosette or purfling, do you have to use care not to get any on the glue surface area, or do you go ahead and seal inside the groove too?

CA eats through shellac down to the wood. I have glued test braces over french polish and when I popped them off, it didnt split right in the shellac layer as i would have hoped, but it took out some of the spruce too.

CA also spreads around the area, making the shellac unclear and whitish.
I guess i would fill in with CA *before* sealing with shellac.

BTW, Brocks method to drop CA near the gap then sand over works great, even for canyon sized crevasses.  The repair is virtually invisible, looks like a dark grain line.  Will see how it looks with finish on...

I was blessed with a very splintery set of sides :(   Because of that I put bindings from the same wood, no purfling, and it fixed very nicely. And i guess purfling can be added later, with a gramil. I wonder if it cuts well through he CA-dust cement.
