I'm looking to sell these items - no trades please The first two are classical sized sets of Brazilian rosewood.

Set 1 dimensions
backs - 21 3/4" x 5" - 7 1/2" x 5/32"
sides - 32" x 4 1/8" - 4 1/2" x 3/16"
    the thicknesses shown is the minimum - these are fairly thick sets.

Set 2 dimensions
backs - 21 3/4" x 4 1/2" - 7 7/16" x 1/4"
sides - 32" x 4 7/8" - 5" x 1/8" - 3/16"

These sets have been dry and seasoning for at least 2 1/2 years at my home (45-55% RH) and smell like bubble gum. They are both large enough for classical (see the half pattern on the backs in the photos) or Martin 0 or 00 sized guitars. Both sets are flatsawn but stable with no cracks. These will need to be used by an experienced builder due to a bit of warpage - read below. Both sets were resawn on a table saw in Brazil - the sides will need to have some uneven saw lines planed or scraped level before you flatten them and thickness them. They are very hard and ring like a bell.

Set 1 has a good bit of sapwood in the center of the backs and none in the sides. There is some hard (not punky) spalting in the sapwood - it is very pretty. There are some birdseyes in the wood (small closed knots) that add character. There is some knot shadow - it has caused some minor tearout that should sand out. On the "inside" face of one of the sides, there is a knot that will fall outside of the pattern if used near the neck. The backs are fairly flat and the sides have a bit of warpage. This should flatten out easily once the wood is sanded to thickness - the sides may need heat and then be pressed flat first. $125.00 SOLD to Dave Galas



Set 2 has a bit of sapwood that will fall out of the pattern for a Classical. Set 2 has sides large enough for a dreadnought and you could add another piece in the middle of the back to make a larger guitar. There are no knots in this set and it has black ink lines and spiderwebbing too. The trade off is a bit more warping in this set than the first, but with some work and some patience it will flatten out so it can be thicknessed. The plates will need to be heated and pressed flat for a while before being thicknessed. There is minor tearout that will sand out of the plates. $175.00 SOLD to Dave Galas



I think this describes all features and issues with these sets. I'll never use these sets (I don't use Brazilian rosewood for back and sides) and they are sold with a no return policy - so make sure you want these before buying. Here is a 24 fret neck-through White Limba strat with rosewood fingerboard. It's 1 11/16" @ the nut, 25.5" fender scale and a 12" radius. The neck is rough carved on the back - it's very meaty like a 59 Gibson, but thicker. There is plenty of room to carve to your favorite neck profile.

I'm not sure what type of rosewood the fingerboard is - it looks a bit like Madagascar rosewood but it's slightly reddish with black lines. If you look at the closeup pics it shows where two of the black lines have barely separated for a few inches. Some fine rosewood dust and black superglue and it will be an invisible fix. The builder had started to fix this and went on to something else - it should be a 5 minute fix. If you want, I'll throw in either a dark purple Indian or Madagascar rosewood fingerboard blank so you can replace the current fingerboard.

The body wings (unglued) are white limba with a wormhole or two and it shows a bit of typical blue mineral streaks. You can use this as a lefty or righty depending on how its glued. The neck is quartered with a strat peghead. It has an adjustable truss-rod that is accessible from the peghead - not sure what kind though.

There are a few small chips on the edges that will carve/sand out easily. There is plenty of material to keep a Les Paul-style heel or no heel at all.

This Bearclaw Sitka top is from Prince of Wales island in Alaska and the wood has been air-dried and seasoned since the 1940's. It has light bearclaw throughout the top (mainly on lower 2/3rds of top) and would grade to a AA top without the bearclaw. The whole top has a nice chatoyance - it shimmers. The color is darker than typical Sitka - a honey blonde color. It is quartersawn and has no runout. There is tons of silking too.

The top is 9+ inches wide and 23 inches long. That is an OM outline drawn in for reference - the top is plenty big for a jumbo. It is light weight and pretty stiff. It rings out when tapped and sustains well. I think this will make a great guitar. $60.00 Sold to Adam

This is a circa 1900 English user-made infill smoother plane with a 2.25" wide James Howarth iron and a Marples & Sons chipbreaker. They work fine but I would suggest buying a Hock iron and chipbreaker - I have done that for my other two infills. The mouth is very tight - 1/48" wide gap between tip of iron and mouth. The sole is flat but may need a little lapping as the patina looks the same as the sides. There are no cracks or breaks in the metal or the wooden infill. The maker, LS Griffiths, has his name stamped on the infill a few times. It has a brass escutcheon button on the front - just wack this with a hammer to position the iron.

The nice thing about this plane is the rear tote is very comfortable for people with large hands. Most planes only allow the bottom 2 fingers to fit comfortably inside the handle - people were just smaller when the majority of hand planes were being made.

It needs a little cleaning and I never got around to fettling this. It doesn't have any rust, but has spots of pitting in areas that won't hurt. With a little tuning she should give you gossamer shavings. I paid over $250.00 from Patrick Leach (Stanley - Blood and Gore website). Didn't Sell (heavy-4.2 Lb).




Here are 6 Martin acoustic carved necks. They are all factory seconds because of a small knot or small wormhole. The edges where the neck shaft meets the fingerboards are slightly frayed on all - the neck will finish out just slightly skinnier across the width of the fingerboard. This means no wide fingerstyle necks - these will be standard width.

All are 25.34" Martin long scale and have a bolt-on tenon. All are at least 1.75" @ the nut. They are routed for the Martin trussrod and have Indian rosewood peghead overlays.

I just uploaded 6 pictures of the defects on necks 5 and 6. I'll take more pics if you need. The only way I know to really fix this is to inlay pearl/abalone dots in the knots or something similar. Again, these necks won't be for fingerstyle guitars, like they were intended. They will be skinnier across the width of the fingerboard than normal due to the slight fraying along the edges.

Dark stain on the neck or black lacquer would work on these necks. I'm more concerned with the width loss due to fraying. I hate to ask you to slap a fretboard on there, so what you are saying these will be less than standard width to finish them out? Is that right?

They will probably finish out a bit skinnier than your average neck that has a 1 11/16" nut and string spacing @ saddle of 2 1/4".

The only thing I can think of is cutting a deep binding channel on either side and gluing in strips of spanish cedar and carving that to the correct width. This may be more trouble than it's worth though. The other 4 necks were ok, these not so much. If you still want these, knowing how much work they are going to be, I can sell these to you for $45.00 - shipping included.
