Welcome Darin,

If you want to learn to become a great guitar builder you've come to the right place. You'll find some of the best builders in the world on this forum and they're great guys to a man (and woman). A warning luthery is addictive, the more guitars you build the more you want to build. But if you have any questions, just ask them here and the real 'experts' will be sure to come up with an answer. Mind you if six people answer your question you'll probably end up with seven solutions!

Colin

Darin great to have you here. I attended Galloup and it is a great school. Russ is one of the best teachers out there and although not know how many start to finish guitars he has done, with all the students in all 3 phases I bet he and Sam have done 100's. If get a chance head out to Rogers Heights (just outside Big Rapids) and check them out. The 2 month school is fine and gets you many of the basics, but the 6 months you build 4-5 guitars (depend what they are doing now) and when waiting for glue, finish or other things, you do lots and lots of nut, saddles, fretboards and other repairs. I think Bryan is getting school certified as a higher ed thing for student loans. Have fun building it is addictive though

OT alert

I caught it right off, Miachael. And to think, I actually saw them in concert at Ector County Collesium. Amazing some of the groups who came through Odessa.

Thanks to all! I stumbled onto the original OLF in Dec. and joined here last month. While knowledge of the other forums is that of just a glance, there's no doubt about it, this one's the best!! Just a few edits for the bio Lance. There's no "s" on the end of Spayd and I failed to mention my high school sweetheart turned bitter...ah, I mean better half! That would be Michelle. That's Shell to me and Shelly to everyone else!! Give me some credit for mentioning the boys, though.

Stan, While the discovery of Galloup's school was both inspirational and well-timed(laid off, no time conflicts), I had not the funds! (still don't)     If I could just scrape up about $10 G's and a guarantee that my current job would be there when I returned, I'd be there as soon as an opening came around!!!!!! I'm on the "Independent Studies" program. (read, read, read......)

Thanks Lance! I apologize if I seem fussy. I suppose that means I should turn out an alright luthier, eh?
