A couple of weeks ago Tony posted some pics and details of some of the jigs he uses. I've built a couple of these, and they really work! Thanks, Tony.

The binding jig/router guide:
With a 'counterweight' for the router, it makes sense to cut the binding/purfling ledges with the guitar on its side in a guitar vise or Trojy. Once I got this concept into my (thick) head, I looked in my scrap metal collection and found a cutoff from the bronze prop shaft in my boat- it really does the trick. The rest of the jig is just some phenolic and UHMW plastic, and a few bits of hardware from the guide that came with a cheap lam trimmer. For the first time lately, I've cut a set of ledges that I'm really happy with. I also realized (duh!) that the way to start and end the cut is to 'roll' the router with the guide in position on the guitar body. This prevents the 'dings' I'd sometimes been getting when advancing the cutter into the work.

Soundport jig:
This pretty well an exact copy of Tony's jig. I used flat-head KD bolts to allow my full-size router base to slide across the jig, and put a couple of chunks of heat-shrink on the threaded rods to protect the guitar sides from scratching (I cut a port in a project eBay guitar which had finish on it).

Some posters may wonder whether it's worth the trouble taking pictures and putting together tutorials; I just wanted to show that these things really do get built!
Thanks again, everybody!

Cheers
John
