Hey gang!


Here's my #2 build, featuring Padauk B/S, Engleman top, RW bindings, walnut/maple comp neck, red morrel headplate containing my very first hand-cut inlay (thanks to Bob Long for the chunks o' pearl!), ebony bridge, bone nut and saddle.


Once you get a finish on Padauk, it sure deepens in color!  Coulda used just one more coat of sealer, noticed some open pores here and there.  Overall, a really pretty tonewood and easy to work with.


Did a few things differently from my first build....watched the thickness on the back and sides a little closer (#2 guitar weighs in at right around 4lbs., first was closer to 4.5lbs).  Bracing is mahogany once again, but went with parabolic versus scalloped this time.  Getting a better finish, but not perfect yet...a little more removal of the Zpoxy woulda been a good thing!  But all in all, I'm pretty happy with it.  Also installed the Fishman Acoustic Matrix, the thing sounds beautiful with a flat EQ and just a smidge of reverb.  Unplugged however, I'm not getting as much bass response as I'd like...compared to my first, anyway.  Might that be from the bracing?

You might have a good point there....didn't weigh it.  Ebony too...kinda heavy by nature.  What should the typical bridge weigh?

Hey thanks, Bob!  You are far too kind.  It was hot...my hands were sweaty...I was nervous.....I had too much coffee that day....wasn't wearing my lucky shirt....the list goes on!


Number three is gonna be a tiger myrtle B/S, bearclaw Sitka top.  Got a party possibly interested in an OM which will be tiger myrtle or koa, once they decide.  Before starting #3, I'm gonna rearrange the shop so it's more luthery-friendly.  Constantly shuffling tools around due to lack of bench space!


Gimme a buzz sometime soon and let's hook up, Bob!

Good job !! I like your headstock shape and logo.I use padauk for my bridge plates,

So here's another vote for Padauk.
It is an amazing wood, and if my resident launderer wasn't so dead set against it, I'd use it a lot more.
