An opportunity exists for any forum members to advise me regarding preferred veneer thicknesses for laminated sides and backs

I have the option when milling and resawing logs to aportion some fo the material to be processed into veneer so that you can have matched laminated sides in combination with solid backs. Alternatively you may want veneer for backs and sides.

Here are two samples of the type of veneer I was going to utilise.










In any event if anyone has any information reagrding veneer thickness and possibly final side wall thickness I would be happy to hear from you.

I could use a few sets of regular thickness sides of that Tiger Myrtle with the curl. I have some backs of that and need some sides to go with it.

Tim that is georgous stuff. The wood lust is strong upon me.

Hey Tim, I could use some in the .040" range. However, it would have to be dry and sanded to final thickness. Most veneers are .020" which are just too thin for my liking.

I am thinking that something about .045 inches thick would be about right. That would give you .090 if doubled up and perhaps a little thicker considering the thickness of the laminating glue.

I know some of the classical guys use a 60-65 thou outer laminate of the main wood with a 40-45 thou inner of something like cypress or spruce for the inner laminate.

Don: I will have a look. There is a lot of variation as you will know.

Tim & John: I will get in contact with the veneer plant and see what is possible.

Colin: I am not sure if the veneer machine can do that but I will if it can.
