Post subject:  Truss rod length and installation

Recently I`ve seen a YouTube video fro a german luthier who build a comissioned steel string guitar. The truss rod nearly reached the soundhole and was not embedded in the neck block extension for nearly 5 cm. The guitar was a dread. Is the length of the truss rod determined for a correct action of the rod, or doesn`t it matter? Robbie O`Brian places his truss rods with the moving parts beginning at the neck-body-joint.
How do you install your truss rods?

Hi Juergen I was like Robbie with the rod only effective from the 1st fret to the body joint. That's how they are all in my experience.

I stop mine at the head block too.

I'm assuming this is for headstock access and not sound hole access?

I stop my truss rods at the tenon of the heel block, with access from the sound hole, and extending to between the first fret and nut.
THats how I built my first guitar, and subsequent ones.

Same here. The threaded block at the nut end of the rod rests on top of the tenon just past the neck/body joint.
