Hi Everyone,

Looking for some guidance/resources on finding someone to appraise and authenticate a large quantity of Brazilian Rosewood I inherited. My father (luthier for 50+ years) passed last Spring and I inherited his supplies/collection...my gifts were more on the playing side and not as a builder. I'm currently inventorying/organizing everything and will be working on completing about 14-15 projects he had been working on. Part of that inventory includes approximately 27 side sets (Dreadnought ,000, OM), 7-8 backs, a couple full boards, cut-offs and orphan sides of Brazilian Rosewood that he had obtained in the mid 60s..pre embargo. He had already made several instruments out of this stock and the sweet smell was one of the first things he showed me as a kid. Right now everything is stored in a temp controlled/humidified space and I'm looking to find someone to appraise this and verify everything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I did contact a couple dealers and had interest, but I'd like to start by understanding exactly what I'm in possession of. thanks Scott

Thank you so much...He had a special gift and music, playing and building hold a lot of great memories for me.

I’ll echo Hesh and say sorry for your loss. It’s nice to see that what he left behind will be treated with the upmost respect.

You might also share the album to Allied Lutherie. They often acquire entire wood stash in case you have more than the rosewood sets.

Best of luck.

The size markings in crayon (D, 00) are characteristic of 1960's Martin. That alone should attach a premium price, though the ones that are straight-grained and quartered are at the top of the pricing.
