I'm ready to start sanding 3 instruments and have watched jeff jewitt use an orbital a 3 " I think, and I will be using a 5".
He uses I think a .5" one on sides & back and nothing on the top. I already had the .5" but recently bought a .125 and a .375.
Who uses them and which size where?

I’m far from an expert so take this FWIW…

I choose the interface pad based on the grit and what I’m trying to do. This is for polyester / polyurethane - I have zero experience with nitro.

Initial leveling - 400 - hard block by hand or firm (sometimes called hard) interface pad for ROS.

Finish sanding - 600 to 1500 - soft hand block (Kovax pink foam block or yellow Assilex block) or soft interface pad for ROS.

The same for both 3” & 5” sanders.

2K & 3k - soft hand block (Kovax pink foam block or yellow Assilex block). No ROS
