Happy New Year all, I am considering building a Stahl #6 style this year and wonder if anyone has any experience with this. I have some Wenge that I am debating on using for that or a style 0. I am open to other tonewoods as well. Thanks, and blessings for the New Year! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Since no one is chiming in on your question I'll relate my limited experience with Larson guitars. I like the overall vibe of Larsons but I have never built a Larson-style guitar. I did have the opportunity of having one in my possession for a number of weeks and played it fairly extensively. It was a bigger 12-fretter than what pics have led me to believe is a typical Stahl #6. In my opinion, Larson's Brazilian RW laminated braces is one of those luthier ideas that seems like it would be Earth shattering but doesn't get there. The Larson I played had the laminated braces and was made of beautiful BRW. I felt the voice of the guitar was constricted and it wasn't particularly rewarding to play. I know you can't judge a builder's entire output by one guitar. The Larson I played was very well made and with great materials. I felt it should have sounded better than it actually did. By contrast, a friend's all Koa Martin 00, which had humbler materials and was roughly the same size as the Larson, was the exact opposite. I couldn't put it down. Good luck! |
