I guess I can’t kick this bad habit completely. I’m in Spain, and I realize I do want to still tinker on guitars. Is there an EU source for nut/saddle blanks, nut files, fret dressing tools, etc.? The kind of stuff you might buy from StewMac if you were in the USA? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Doesn’t Madinter offer most things from SM now? In fact, weren’t they acquired by SM? https://www.madinter.com/en/accessories ... d&q=saddle Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I think Crimson Guitars sells a lot of tools specific to building/repairing. I've never ordered from them tho. |

You can still buy from Stewmac - if you pay for their Stewmax membership they will ship stuff - internationally - for free. |

joshnothing wrote: You can still buy from Stewmac - if you pay for their Stewmax membership they will ship stuff - internationally - for free. Wow. Really? Thanks for the other links as well. I’ve relocated to Europe for a few years, and the first blow was I couldn’t ship any of my guitars. I posted a question here on how to ship from USA to Europe and got no responses. UPS quoted me $1400 per guitar. Yikes! No wonder I got no responses. No one must ever ship a guitar! I haven’t bought a guitar in 20+years, but I was breaking out in a cold sweat not being able to play. I probably practice 2-3hrs a day normally. So I ordered a cheap Chinese guitar and, guess what? It never made it through customs! Ok, ok. Full blown panic. I ordered a guitar from Thomann. It arrived, but the setup is sh@t (pardon my French)* Now I need to cut the nut; level, crown, and dress frets; oil a tragically dried out fretboard; set the truss rod, intonation and action. Can’t do that without my magic kit (that I donated to a friend’s kid thinking I was “done with lutherie”). So I’ll have to burry the Scotsman in me and repurchase tools and a few nut blanks (because you always need nut blanks). Preferably without the customs and VAT nightmare that prevented me from getting a guitar from China. Has anyone ordered StewMac into the EU? Did it go smoothly, or did you have problems at customs? *some of you may comment that I have complained about German quality control, quoted a stereotype about my ancestors from Scotland, casually disparaged the French, all while writing in English from Spain. Apologies to everyone; unless you’re Japanese in which case you’ve probably just had a good laugh. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Ha ha, reminds me when I lived in Spain for a few years and bought a VW Bug so I could get around. The bug was a good deal but needed an engine rebuild. No biggie, I’d done several and figured it wouldn’t cost too much. Wrong. Between VAT and other taxes and fees I ended paying more than double what the same parts would cost in the US. On the plus side Spain is beautiful, I hope you enjoy your time there. Steve |

when you order at StewMac, in Germany you have to pay tax, 19%. In Germany you can look for luthier tools at https://www.dictum.com https://shop.rall-online.net/ https://tlcguitargoods.com, I think in Netherland https://shellex.com/ , for nuts and saddels and inlays |

Have a look at their website, they have lots of very interesting tools, some way cheaper and similar to SM's. I'm in Canada and have bought quite a few items from them. Pierre Guitares Torvisse |

At the risk of sounding facetious- if it’s just one guitar, rather than rebuy hundreds of bucks of tools, deal with international borders etc couldnt you just take your axe to a luthier to be setup..?
