I like the small Romantic guitars. I did a Stauffer, and have plans for a Panormo. It has a small upper bout, and is not as wide at the bottom. It seems that for a small instrument they are just about right.

I saw this Lacote video last night. I've seen Lacote guitars (in pictures!) and they always have a wide bwbwbw... border, and a wider bwbw.... rosette. This one flipped the rosette, and it looks very modern. Especially for 1839.

I have seen a blog that has a Lacote build, and a museum has a plan available. I haven't checked to see if it is really there. It doesn't appear to be anymore. Dead link. But for the first time EVER, I asked a question on a web search for something, and actually found what I wanted! I wanted the size of the body, and the museum website GAVE it!

It is no bigger than the Panormo. Cool. I have 5 sets that can make a Panormo. I just need to find a plan.

The actual cool looking tuners are very expensive; for any of them. They really did some nice stuff back then. I'd have to get much more careful in my work!

The video has a technique that I never heard/saw before. A trumpet call on guitar. Very different.

Wow. Crane has a lot of romantic guitar plans. He has pictures of the rosette and purfling. Is that embossed metal?

No I don't think it is metal although it looks like it.

I think it is engraved Mother of pearl.

Holy Moly.

Another guitar plan is for an 1820 La Prevotte. It has a carved back like an archtop, and an oval soundhole with parallel bracing like an archtop.

Hi Ken,
I believe that first rosette has a central motif of engraved pearl similar to the one pictured below, but of a much higher quality which Lacote was known for. The one below also has some poorly executed replacement pieces further detracting from the quality, but they do fill in the "holes"
