Trying to get these 2 guitars done while working is not easy. I need to do a pet portrait for someone and my daughter just asked me to build a display rack for her craft mugs that she sells. idunno I still haven't got the stupid trains out of my shop yet. That was a bad idea to begin with. I'm supposed to be working on some Hawaiian tunes for a little show coming up soon. I just want to build guitars and mandolins. [uncle]

I feel your frustration.
Man makes plans, and God laughs.

My wife does pottery and I made her some foldable display shelves so she can display them in the guitar/pottery gallery we have above my shop as well as pack them down to take to shows. SO if your daughter does shows it's something to think about.

Yup, keep working.

When you retire there's no more weekends off, vacation, holidays or sick leave.

At least you have some say in what you do and when you start or stop but that's about it.

If you did really good working, maybe you can hire the post retirement hard labor part out some. Hope you're lucky.

I should have worked harder when I was.......But I'm lovin' it anyway.

That's what counts.

I'm retired too and have to go to work tomorrow there are three guitars waiting for me to repair. I'm happy to have something to do and hope to work until I can't.

I’ve been retired since 2013 - I can confirm that “It does not suck!” - be prepared to be busier than you were….

Cheers, M

Just remembe4, when you retire, no more vacation days and no more sick days. I couldn't go back to work if i wanted to. I don't have the time.

Been retired since 2018 and I still have trouble finding time to work in the shop. Like Victor, I don’t have time for a job anymore.

Ha! I love hearing all of this. I'd like to get there sooner than later but it's looking like another ten years for me.

I left my real job 23 years ago when my youngest graduated from college. I wasn’t old enough to retire, so I had to quit. Within two weeks, I didn’t know how I ever had time to go to work. Being in charge of my own life is wonderful. I heartily recommend it. I don’t have time to do everything that needs to be done, but often I can choose what will get done.

I hear ya Mike. I did repairs on the side for about 10 years then let the word spread after I retired so I just got busier. Every time I got the jobs caught up someone else would show up. East Tennessee has lots of guitar players plus I had guys even driving 4 hrs from Nashville to drop off guitars - mostly setup and fret work. Got so busy it was turning into a job so I pretty much shut it down. I still do work for a couple of long-time regulars but that's it. I still don't have enough time for my own stuff but at least I'm making progress now.
