I was getting set up to cut the kerfs this morning and decided I want a better jig for doing it. The wood is already sized and beveled so it has to be on the bandsaw. Before I go reinventing the wheel, I'd like to see some of your bandsaw jig designs.

That’s pretty slick!

I do something similar, but without the automatic feed. Once you get set up it goes pretty quickly.

I'm pretty sure I won't be building that! It's pretty awesome though.

Wow! That is a very cool jig Michael. Impressive.

I pretty much just buy linings now but sometimes I still make them and if I do I simply mark a pencil line on the bandsaw deck to mark the distance between blocks and clamp a piece of wood down to make a depth back stop and use a push stick to make the saw cut, slide it left and continue.

Haha, I’ve seen that video a few times now and I still click on it every time it gets posted. :D

Amazing.

It was really fun to design! Yes, it's based on a couple other designs but still took a few days to think it through. I've only had to set it up a couple times cuz I cut 100 pieces at a times - It takes 80 seconds to run one stick.

Didn’t Frank Ford do something similar?

Mine is not so slick, similar , but manual feed. I’m very happy with being able to churn out $100 of linings in a short period of time.

Michael, would you consider making and selling one of these jigs?

It is a cool machine, for sure! I unsuccessfully tinkered with something similar, but since I use relatively short pieces of kerfed lining (I glue sections), I am now just using my fret slot cutting sled, with two thin blades in the table saw. I can lay several pieces of lining material parallel to each other on the sled, then advance a kerf at a time by hand. Tedious, but a lot less tedious than doing every piece one at a time.

I'd love one of those autometed jigs, but I haven't made one. I put together this simple jig. ...primative, but it works.

I’ll think about it. You can certainly have the drawings, after all, there are tens of dollars involved here…

Instead of asking Michael to make me a jig, me personally, Mike, how much for a 32in strip of kerfed lining? :)

Here’s a super simple method, though I’d be tempted to kerf all four pieces at one go before splitting lengthwise…
