Here is my latest instrument, a curly black walnut and red spruce 00. Mahogany neck from Andy Birko. Ebony fretboard, bridge & binding. Headplate and heelcap are cut offs from the back. Cardinal UV cured polyurethane. Osmo oil on the neck. The walnut and spruce came from Appalachian Tonewoods. I’m hoping they have some nice sets when we visit them in a couple weeks! Very nice. I like the asymmetric head and heel. |

The walnut is beautiful, but the simplicity, and asymmetry are key. Very nice. |

bobgramann wrote: Very nice. I like the asymmetric head and heel. Thanks, Bob. It means a lot. The asymmetrical shape is re-used as well in the fretboard extension, and the wings of the bridge. It’s the same shape throughout. The only thing that bugs me is the “high” side of the shape on the heel is on the treble side of the instrument, which is not where I would like. It’s the reverse of a cutaway. I’m too far down the rabbit hole to change now and it doesn’t seem to bother me playing up the neck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Bling doesn’t make it sound any better or play any easier. I like a simple and artful design. You’ve got it. |

It sounds wonderful, Brad! As I was watching and listening, I had an idea about something: If you recorded the sound onto your computer instead of imbedding it in the iPhone video (an option we have discussed), could you set up a few different iPhones to get a few different views of you playing? Maybe one of them could be handheld by your son on a gimbal, and he could move around a bit. Then you can mix the video and the sound in post production. I know it is more work, but it would add a lot of visual interest. Focusing on these sorts of videos as a sales tool: If I were a buyer, I would want to see the guitar from different angles, and I would want to see the different parts of the guitar while you are playing it. Just an idea. You have the sound recording working really well! |

Beautiful guitar! I did notice the asymmetry theme on several components of the guitar, and did wonder about the heel, but it did follow the headstock so I didn't give it too much thought - just another design choice. The guitar sounds nice and no need to apologize for your playing. |

Very nice, Brad. It reminds me that I have some Claro Walnut stashed somewhere I need to resaw. I haven't built one with Walnut. Yours sounds really nice. |
