https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-a ... gK33vD_BwE Great tool. But I wish it had a smaller cutter. Thoughts? Something more suitable for smaller pegheads (mandolins?) Can I get a smaller version of that cutter? |

You could use a W.L. Fuller four flute countersink and chisel the taper flat to give a square shoulder. Find a countersink without the set screw collar such as this type (or file off the collar of those that have it): https://hardwickandsons.com/products/w- ... ag_organic |

That is a really cool hardware store Clay. They have good prices and some hard to find tools. |

Look for counterbore's or type R counterbores. |

Hi Barry, That is an interesting store - thanks for pointing that out. Brian - I should have looked a little farther. They do have counterbores - a few more bucks, but not too expensive: https://hardwickandsons.com/collections ... ounterbore |

Only a ten-hour drive for me to the store but its right on my route from home to the boat moored in Bellingham. Definitely checking it out next time through. |

Here is a smaller one - https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/product/product-detail/500 Jamestown used to have several different sizes, and I've ordered some from them before. |

Just asking, are any of these compatible with the stew-mac system? The rod diameter is my concern (and locking in to it). Nice if someone here has done that... |

If it doesn't fit the SM shaft, you could just get some drill rod of the appropriate diameter to fit the counterbore. |

The counterbores list the diameter of the center hole. You can use an extra long drill bit chucked into drill backwards or a drill rod as mentioned. Such as: https://www.amazon.com/COMOWARE-Long-Dr ... WV1OIITOXD |
