I am working with one of Birkoniums necks and it has the birds beak detail on the peghead. Does anyone have a close up of the finished detail either on one of his or one of yours. I'm just not sure how to do the detailing in the transition area. |

There are a number of ways to do the transition. The originals has an abrupt line where the peghead joined the neck shaft with the volute carrying past it and on to the peghead similar to the pictured. With one piece construction there are a number of different ways the transition can happen. |

Looking at the neck blanks on Andy's website, I would hold the straight line on the face of the peghead where it meets the neck, and then curve the line on the back of the peghead so it meets the neck, and carve the points in between so they meet the curve of the neck, similar to what I pictured. Clear as mud? |

Thanks Clay. I'm getting something from your picture but still a bit unsure. I'm guessing the neck profile stays the same till where the nut meets the neck or maybe even through the entire thickness of the nut?? |

Hi Mike, I was trying to find a good picture in my picture files, but stumbled upon this on the net, which shows things much better: http://www.earlymartin.com/headstocks.html Nut location is somewhat variable - sometimes on the neck and sometimes on the peghead. |

Nice looking snakehead! I like the way snakeheads allow the strings to bend less across the nut. |

Thanks, Mike. Commissions the last five years have all been classicals, and inlaid logos don't go over so well in that market, so I have a couple dozen of them from Andy DePaule stashed away. |
