I don't recall seeing many light wood strap buttons or maple. But you might take a look at LMII for boxwood end pins - https://www.lmii.com/bridge-pins-and-end-pins/514-boxwood-end-pin.html Looks something like maple. You'd have to cut it off and drill it for a screw but that's not bad. Also small drawer pulls or knobs might be a source for maple parts that could get a little transformation in the shop and work. Mini Shaker pegs may be a good start. Prior to having a lathe I've used a drill press or even a drill held in a vise to spin small stuff against files and sandpaper to shape small items. Know any pen makers? |

Hey Bill, Since I have a maple necked acoustic on the bench I thought you had an interesting idea in custom strap buttons. Maybe it would work for me too. So, between plowing snow up here I thought I'd make one myself. Back, sides and all the furniture except the neck are macasser ebony so in the end, I decided to go with ebony. I like torturing myself with tiny projects on occasion to see if the fingers still work. I made the maple button out of scrap saved from the wood stove and is curly crotch wood and considerably harder than most hard maple. Anyway, the experiment was a success with no do overs! If you want this one PM me an address, and merry Christmas. Do you want a gold or silver screw if you do. Attachment: DSCN4390.JPG
