I have a 3x18 belt sander which has been disused for years, and the use I could put it to would be to whatever I'd be able to use a fixed one for. Does anyone have any suggestions on the topic?

Here is a fixture I built for a Bosch belt sander. Two piece, wall mounted fixture. Halves are held together with a long carriage bolt.

Food for thought, for sure. Thank you. Now to see how the sander can be encapsulated - - - I realize each situation is unique. That tool is doing me no good on the shelf.

Not exactly relevant as mine was a stand mounted 6x48 but maybe it’ll spark an idea…

This is a Craftsman that for some reason runs the opposite direction from every other 6x48 I’ve seen, which was great as it allowed me to mount it in such way that the belt direction went the way I wanted while still allowing me to change belts from above the table.

So it’s mounted with the belt just beneath bench level.

It’s kinda hard to tell, but that big rectangle at the back is a 2x4 torsion box. On the back side of if is two carriage bolts that butt against a backing block. The significant weight of the sander wants to tilt the bed forward, and the carriage bolts were used to fine tune the squareness between sander bed and bench surface. Then I inlaid some t track for a mitre gauge. You can see a few holes in the table surface too where I use the drum end for thickness sanding bone blanks, trimming neck excess before carving and such.

Works a treat!
