I know you may not be a fan of Splines but there are times you need them This is a 70's guild dred with a bad break that was poorly repaired. This is a professional musician from FLA and wanted it put back structurally so you can see this series first the take apart and stabilizing process The first guy though epoxying in 2 lag screws would fix it, well that didn't work |

Once I had a solid platform I can machine in 2 splines to allow me to fix this. They key was to get out of the bad wood so Good wood to good wood and no epoxy residue once the small splines were fixed into the neck and head I can now machine and replace the bad wood |

the bad wood lost all structural strength so now get the head stock wood to solid joints and to tie them together the head stock was thinned so I can use a veneer on the top and back to make it strong and stable. As an engineer all the structure had to be fixed so the applied stresses would be handled and joints wouldn't fail. Owner wanted it economic and strong we went with black paint of the upper neck and faded to the original neck the actual labor time was about 4 1/2 hour of time over about a week |

That’s great John. Thanks for sharing that, I’ve got an old Japanese Dread in the shop with two deck screws and epoxy,,,, yeah. You’ve given me a good idea on how to repair it. It was given to me so now I can fix it and find it a good home. Steve |
